November/December saw some further product testing of the 9′6″ 5wt Penstock in the Western Lakes and a new 9ft 7wt Wild Creek prototype out of the boat and amongst the trees of Arthur’s. The Penstock continues to grow as one of my favourite rods ever. The length and control of this rod in presenting lake drys is superb. It allows great control in a longer rod you can fish all day with. The 7wt development is exciting. Sitting in a boat with two other fly casting maniacs in cyclonic conditions, flys swishing past my ear, back, throat with increasing frequency placed the product testing under great pressure. However I think the flies came closer to “taking me out” as the rod continually outcast my boat colleagues, searching new water and raising new fish consistently. The rod will make an exciting addition to the Wild Creek family in late 2008 ready for the new season, it will be a 4 piece rod dedicated to NZ and large lake windier conditions.
