About Wild Creek Rods

The Wild Creek pedigree

Wild Creek Rods was created by Neil Charter, a passionate fly fisher, who grew up from the age of eight fishing the moorland streams of Somerset and Devon in England’s West Country and the chalkstreams of Hampshire in the South. Fly fishing

At age 16 he emigrated to South Australia and fished the hard scrubby creeks and streams of the Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu Peninsula before moving to live on the Monaro of Southern NSW and the Snowy Mountains. It was here that Neil briefly entered the world of competitive fly fishing and went on to win the NSW Championship, place in many more state events and represent Australia in New Zealand in the Oceania Championships of 1996.

Around that same time, in order to bring a closer focus on the management of the Snowy Mountains as a trout fishery, Neil and fly fishing friend John Sautelle Jnr. made a successful bid for the region to host the 1999 World Fly Fishing Championships. Neil was guide to Chris Ogborne and John Horsey’s England Fly Fishing team as well as the organiser of the Chris Hole Celebrity Fly Fishing Event. He has fished with many of Australia’s leading guides and fishing personalities and some may have already met him with Peter Morse on the MacLaughlin River in the Snowy Mountain’s edition of SBS’s Wild Fish” series.

As an avid campaigner for better fishery management and awareness, Neil has always supported strong catch and release principles in sensitive trout fishery environments. His passion for fly fishing and for encouraging the value of all it entails is what is clearly represented in his brand Wild Creek.
